Demonstranten van A Seed lieten deelnemers aan de conferentie door hoepels springen, een ludieke, vreedzame actie. Minister Verburg (LNV) nam ook op 25 november tijdens de GMO Conference 2009 in Den Haag 10.500 protestmails in ontvangst van de Campagne tegen Gifsoja. Middels deze mailactie roepen mensen uit vele landen de Nederlandse regering op geen ontwikkelingsgeld meer te steken in de Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS).  Meer over die actie lees hier. 27 november 2009 Here's a powerful joint declaration made by 4 NGOs - Greenpeace International, Friends of the Earth Europe (FoEE), Corporate Europe Observatory and X-Y Solidarity Fund - at the closing debate of the two-day European Union conference (GMOs in European Agriculture and Food Production) in the Hague, that took place this week.

Over de Conference "GMOs in European Agriculture and Food Production" (English below).

Woensdag 25 november jl. was ik als woordvoerster van the European GMO-free Citizens bij de opening van de conferentie aanwezig. Om binnen te komen moest je eerst door de "douane". Zo streng beveiligd heb ik het nog niet eerder meegemaakt. De openingspeeches van zowel minister Verburg alsmede die van minister Cramer als die van professor Louise Fresco waren één grote promotie voor gentech gewassen. Een bekende professor dr. John Fagan (Global ID Group), een firma die o.a. gentech ingrediënten in gewassen en voedsel kan testen) uit de VS die het woord kreeg, vertelde dat hij eerder op oneigenlijke gronden niet was toegelaten tot de conferentie, en waarschuwde krachtig tegen de gevaren van gentech voedsel, maar hij kon zijn zinnen niet afmaken, want minister Verburg snoerde hem onmiddellijk de mond.

Gelukkig waren er ook positieve geluiden uit het buitenland: Noorwegen luistert in tegenstelling to Nederland wel naar haar burgers en heeft tot nu toe alleen een gentech anjer naam Moonlite, als enige gentech gewas toegelaten, ook omdat anjers niet gegeten worden.

Verschillende presentaties van kritische organisaties werden buiten de conferentie gehouden en zo is er geen objectief beeld te krijgen van alle meningen. Dit schaadt onze zo geroemde democratie, zeer.

On the Conference "GMOs in European Agriculture and Food Production"

On Wednesday the 25th of November I as the spokeswoman of The European GMO-free Citizen did attent the Conference "GMOs in European Agriculture and Food Production" initiated by the Dutch Ministries of VROM (Environment) and Agriculture.

To attend you first had to go through a kind of Customs. I have never seen such a strict safety measurements structure before. The opening speeches of both minister Gerda Verburg (AG) as minister Cramer (VROM) were all pro GMOs so you could say that was the advertising department of the Dutch government. Prof. Louise Fresco too was a good advertiser in the same way. An attendant of the conference, prof. dr. John Fagan (Global ID Group) from the States, let the audience know he at first didn't get permissing to attend, and said he was very critical towards GMOs, but before he could speak up, the chair of the conference, minister Verburg said he didn't get the opportunity to speak further.

Fortunately, there also where possitive things to recall: Norway does listen to her citizens and hasn't placed any GMO on the market yet, neither cultivited a GMO crop, only one GMO-carnation Moonlite, which people can not eat.

A lot of presentations of critical groups like A seed didin't get a change to spread their views and had to demonstrate in front of the doors of the Kurhaus hotel. Finally they were send away before the ministers did arrive. This is not a very good exemple of the so called Dutch "Democracy", when did we loose our way in this?
