Burger initiatief Lelystad gentechvrij
Biologica ondersteunt het burger initiatief om Lelystad uit te roepen tot een gentechvrij gebied van harte. Het uitroepen van een gentechvrij gebied is een belangrijk maatschappelijk en politiek statement. Boeren, consumenten en lokale politici laten daarmee zien dat ze geen teelt van ggo gewassen in hun omgeving wensen en dat ze de voorkeur geven aan ggo- vrije conventionele of biologische landbouw.. Daarnaast hebben gemeenten de mogelijkheid om in hun bestemmingsplan ggovrije zones aan te wijzen mits ze motiveren dat de ggo vrije landbouw een “kwetsbare landbouwvorm” is en een ruimtelijke scheiding noodzakelijk is om de aanwezige ggo vrije landbouw te beschermen.. Ook Biologica maakt zich zorgen over de introductie van commerciële teelt van ggo-gewassen in Nederland. Ggo teelt vormt een ernstige bedreiging voor de (groei van de) biologische landbouw. Zowel door het directe gevaar van besmetting van biologische gewassen als door het risico op marktuitsluiting.. De aanwezigheid van ggo teelt in de nabijheid van biologische bedrijven kan al voldoende zijn voor handelaren om naar een andere, meer veilige, producent uit te zien. Afnemers van biologische produkten nemen wat betreft de mogelijke vervuiling met ggo’s namelijk geen enkel risico. Daar komt nog bij dat het op dit moment volstrekt onduidelijk is hoe lang het duurt voordat landbouwgrond waar ggo teelt heeft plaatsgevonden weer gebruikt kan worden voor ggo vrije teelt.. 16-09-2004

Hiermede ondersteunen wij als Natuurwetmoeders het initiatief van Miep Bos, Wilma Schoots en Maria Lieve en veel andere Lelystadse burgers om via een commissievergadering burgerinitiatief van het gemeentebestuur van Lelystad te proberen Lelystad en wijde omgeving gentechvrij te verklaren. Dit is een bijzonder goed initiatief omdat bij genetische manipulatie van voedselgewassen een techniek wordt gebruikt die in de natuur niet voorkomt en reeds bewezen is niet goed te zijn voor de landbouwgronden, plant, dier en mens.Er zijn reeds teveel negatieve gevolgen van genetisch gemanipuleerd zaad bekend:
1) de gehele landbouwcultuur (agri-culture) komt op deze manier in handen van multinationals
2) geen onderzoek gedaan naar langetermijn effecten voor plant, dier en mens
3) geen terugkeer meer mogelijk naar reeds honderd jaar lang veredeld zaad wat geen problemen heeft gebracht voor gezondheid en economie.
4) co-existentie is niet te tolereren
5) er is totaal geen reden om over te gaan op GMO-gewassen, het geld zit tussen de oren van de multinationals

Natuurlijk steun ik jullie initiatief van harte! Ik kan niet aanwezig zijn op 30 augustus omdat ik dan moet werken, anders was ik zeker gekomen. Ik wens jullie heel veel sukses en hoop dat Lelystad de eerste gen-techvrije gemeente wordt van Nederland en dat vele gemeenten zullen volgen! Het is de enige manier om onze voedingsgewassen op de lange termijn te beschermen tegen ongewenste en onnatuurlijke ingrepen waarvan de gevolgen voor zowel de gezondheid als het milieu niet te overzien zijn. Bij alle overwegingen die op politiek niveau hebben geleid tot toelating van genetisch gemanipuleerde voedingsmiddelen en veldexperimenten met dergelijke landbouwgewassen is de keuzevrijheid van consumenten om deze produkten al of niet aan te schaffen altijd een zwaarwegend argument geweest. Doordat verspreiding van de vreemde genen in natuurlijke gewassen niet tegen te houden is en omdat er een drempel is gesteld waaronder niet geëtiketeerd hoeft te worden, is er geen sprake meer van keuzevrijheid. De toekomst van de biologische gen-techvrije producten wordt bedreigd door deze ontwikkeling en daarom is het van groot belang dat wordt ingegrepen. Het instellen van gen-techvrije zones zie ik als een stap in de goede richting.
Onze volksvertegenwoordigers zouden beter moeten weten en niet de pharmaceutische industrie moeten volgen in hun argumenten die appeleren aan het verlangen naar wonderen (een technologische oplossing voor het uitbannen van honger in de wereld bijvoorbeeld). Het gaat hen in feite alleen om het veroveren van de markt en winstbejag. Politici dienen hun gezond verstand te gebruiken en de gezondheid van de bevolking en duurzame ontwikkeling van de landbouw bovenaan moeten zetten!

I can only congratulate the intelligentsia of the Lelystad inhabitants to ban GMOs from their foods and food plants.
What Nature did in milleniums of years – to evolve a perfectly coordinated eco system providing food chains to millions of species – a money greedy agroindustry tries to “optimize” by introducing in a very fragmented way bits of genetic information of one species into the genetic code of another species not taking care (or having researched the results of this kind of manipulation in long term-research studies throroughly enough ) of the effects of such metabolism of the receiver organism and the many organism using this organism as their food .
Unknown diseases, immune system disturbances, allergies, neurological and cognitive insufficiencies are very probably the result.
During this spring we wree alarmed by informations that bee folks have fallen prey to unknown diseases and these information – as did bovine madness and others – malke us aware again of the violability of our own existence and food supply.
To endanger the health of the eco-system, the food chains, of our own foods is the greatest danger that can occurr.
People suffered from wars and all kinds of calamities during previous centuries and millenias – but those that survived could do this because they had their fields and meadows where they could grow crops and sustain themselves. Nature was there wealth and kept on nourishing them and allowing for a new flourishing of science, culture, spiritual endeavours etc.
If you destroy Nature you destroy the basis.
Young schoolbeginners, pupils and students entering the schools now oftehn suffer from many kinds of disturbances and even disturbances in perceptions.
This might in a substantial part be caused by the unhealthy, artifical living conditions we are nowadays subjected to.
May the citizens of Lelystad play a vital pioneering role role to enliven a propper, healthy sense of living for sthemselves but even beyond that for all of the citizens of Holland, the land of wholeness.

I read about your initative to keep Lelystad gmo-free and I’d like to congratulate to this action. My name is Lydia Hans, I live in Germany and I’m involved in the Anti-GM-Movement of Attac Germany. I see a huge danger in the development of genetic modified organisms and I am more than sure that so called co-existence of conventional and biological agriculture next to gmo-agriculture does not work. Up-side down biological and also gmo-free conventional agriculture can be an economically chance to produce healthy food of high quality, which tastes well and does not hide potentially dangers like all! ergic components. In German language exist to expresses for the English word food: Nahrungsmittel and Lebensmittel. The difference between these two words: Nahrungsmittel describes food which you consume just for to get something in your stomac. Lebensmittel means food, which you eat to make sure you get healthy, well-tasting, “life-supporting” food and where you know, what you are eating. Lebensmittel means, a tomatoe is a tomatoe and not a mosaic of tomatoe, fish, bacillus thuringiensis and round-up-ready-pesticide.
I expect peasants and agriculture to produce Lebensmittel, because I want to know, what I am eating and I think, people all over the world should oppose nature with respect which is the base of our life in every view of point. And showing respect to the nature does not mean to use its single components as mosaic-stones to create your own, individual bacterium! , fungi, plant,animal, human being, but to understand the whole s ystem and to accept the places and functions of each of nature’s parts.
Use your chance to show respect to life of every living being of the world and support the Burgerinitiatief to create a gmo-free Lelystad. Your children and the children of your children will thank you for it.

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren!
Gentechnik in der Landwirtschaft ist eine Risikotechnologie von der niemand garantieren kann, dass nicht jetzt und in Zukunft schädliche Nebenwirkungen auftreten können (Hinweise dafür sind bereits vorhanden). Vorteile sind, ausser für die Biotechnologie-Grosskonzerne selbst, keine bekannt. Es wäre daher verantwortungslos gegenüber der jetzigen und den zukünftigen Generationen diese Risikotechnologie einzusetzen. Ich möchte mich nicht in Ihre lokalen politischen Entscheidungen einmischen, aber ich finde Ihre Initiative für ein gentechnik-freies Lelystad äusserst wichtig und dringend notwendig.

In support of GMO Free Lelystad & the World:
Unlike what some ‘Green Revolution’ brochures state, Japan’s Green Revolution of a generation ago came true through the time consuming cross-pollination processes, never through the controversial and extremely invasive DNA manipulations.
In nature, cross-pollination occurs spontaneously and when the combination is good, the new ‘species’ survives and prospers. What the Japanese researchers did was simply to follow this natural process; they helped prod it by artificially pollinating but never did the cut and paste of the DNA, they never manipulated the actual genetic code about which we still do not have the complete knowledge.
Food is what makes us healthy or unhealthy: Just as the computer programmers say “Garbage in, garbage out,” what we ingest determines the state of our physical and mental health. Are we ready to gamble our health on the genetically manipulated food? I suppose not. There are too many unknown factors to bet our life on it.
Are we ready to grow our heir room plants in juxtaposition with the new and genetically manipulated ones? I suppose not. Once contaminated, there is no way to reverse the process.
Is there any urgent reason why we have to switch to the genetically manipulated plants, forsaking the traditional kinds? I suppose not. Any change in this crucial and fundamental area should be made slowly, since it always holds a danger of knocking off the delicate balance that exists in the plant kingdom and eventually our animal kingdom that depends, for survival, on it (the plant kingdom).
