Bezorgd over technologie Jan Storms, Storms WATP, verwoordt de bedenkingen bij de technologie: ,,Als je een gen uit een organisme haalt en dat gen in het genoom van een ander organisme sluist, dan staat dat niet gelijk aan het overbrengen van een welomlijnde eigenschap van organisme A naar organisme B. Genen functioneren niet in afzondering, maar in samenhang met de totale genetisch achtergrond en met alle andere niveaus van biologische organisatie. Je hebt dus een gen losgehaald uit het oorspronkelijke oneindig ingewikkelde netwerk en geplaatst in een nieuw netwerk. Hierdoor krijgt het gen een andere betekenis en verandert het hele netwerk.
