On August 10, Monsanto was found guilty on all counts in the first of many cases connecting Roundup’s main ingredient, glyphosate, to cancer. The jury awarded Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, a Bay Area school district groundskeeper, $289 million. Quote from: Institute of responsible technology.

Gisteren heeft een jury in Californië unaniem besloten dat Monsanto consumenten niet gewaarschuwd heeft tegen de schadelijkheid van Roundup.
De chemiegigant die pas overgenomen is door Bayer, moet miljoenen betalen aan een concierge Mr. Dewayne Johnson, die het spul op de speelplaats van een school moest spuiten. Op een gegeven moment kreeg hij door een slang die opensprong een hele lading Roundup over zich heen. Mr. Johnson heeft een zeldzame vorm van kanker ontwikkeld en heeft nog kort te leven. Toch ging hij dit gevecht samen met het advocatenkantoren The Miller Firm, LLC, Baum, Hedlund, Aristei & Goldman PC,Audet & Partners, LLP en Kennedy & Madonna waar Robert Kennedy jr. ook deel van uitmaakt, aan. Monsanto gaat in beroep tegen de uitspraak.
